Good Agricultural Practices Products

Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) are practices which are targeting the environmental, economical, and social sustainability of agricultural activities, while providing quality and safe food and non-food agriculture.

GAP was created by EUREGAP, formed by a group consisting of European retailers and suppliers. In 2007, EUREGAP was revised into GLOBALGAP, which covers the agricultural practices of all countries. In Turkey, the GAP standards are determined with the same principles under the Good Agriculture Practices Regulation.

Fertilizers and pesticides

There are no regulations that regulates or limits the inputs.

Natural inputs can be used on a scale that does not harm the ecosystem.

Artificial inputs and pesticides can be used on a planned and controlled scale

Soil analysis and protection

Soil analysis is not mandatory and there are no regulations for soil protection.

Soil analysis is mandatory. There are regulations which protect the health and structure of soil and prevent erosion.

Soil analysis is mandatory. Controlled use of pesticides and fertilizers, as well as plant medications are practiced.

Protecting water resources

There are no regulations for the protection of water resources.

Water resources are protected by the usage of natural fertilizers instead of chemical ones, and the sustainable use of water.

The recording of inputs in planned production is expected to reduce risks.

Biodiversity protection

There is no regulation over the protection of biodiversity.

The usage of natural resources and environmentally-friendly production techniques helps to protect biodiversity.

By decreasing the usage of chemical inputs, the methods combat against the harmful effects on biodiversity.

Adaptation for and combatting Climate change

The existing system exacerbates climate change.

With the low greenhouse gas emissions and high carbon absorption potential, organic farming is under the scope of mitigation and adaptation policies.

The controlled use of chemicals decreases greenhouse emissions and helps in the combat against climate change.

Food security and safety

Intense usage of chemical inputs puts food security and safety under danger.

One of the priorities of the integrated management approach.

Food security is one the reasons that GAP was conceived.

Unplanned and unregulated

Reduction of waste and recycling are targets of a closed system of production.

With planned production, wastes are either stored or recycled.
